Waiters whirl discs of fresh pizza through the restaurant, wafting alluring aromas as they go. Twin log-fired ovens glow inexhaustibly, baking Edinburgh a tantalising spectrum of devilishly moreish pizzas, from the classic to the calzone. Owner Tony Crolla has one goal: to make La Favorita the best pizzeria in Britain. Crisp bases (also available gluten-free) with helpings of molten mozzarella (locally made and fresh each day) are adorned with combinations of ingredients from a choice including fresh tomato, chanterelle mushroom, Italian sausage, langoustine, clams, parsley, oregano and garlic. An enjoyable antipasti for two – including a delicious combo of pear and fresh parmesan – as well as gourmet pasta dishes and a variety of meat and fish dishes are also available. The funky décor creates an atmosphere that is lively and bright without feeling cramped, even when busy. It makes a great place for a party: on Sundays, children can enjoy a pizza, a knickerbocker glory and a quiet trick or two from Stevie the clown. It's a favourite outing for many local families. Look out for La Favorita's ‘Italian Job’-style minis zapping to and from deliveries across town – a useful service to remember.

  • High point: It is all about the log-fired pizza at La Favorita
  • Low point: Other choices less compelling

I can't believe no-one has posted here yet!

I've been going to La Favorita for three years. The pizza is simply sensational. I lived in Italy for five years, and the pizza in La Favorita is up there with some of the best pizzas I had in Rome and Naples.

If you love pizza, a visit to La Favorita will mean that you'll never eat pizza anywhere else in Edinburgh ever again.

We've never been to the restaurant but we have ordered pizzas from them before. Delicious pizza bread and a selection of toppings that goes miles further from your typical pepperoni and ham and pinapple.
Simply, the best pizzas I've ever had in Edinburgh.
