Proving it’s not just the King Edwards and Jersey Royals of this world that deserve the regal treatment, the Baked Potato Shop lavishes humble spuds with toppings fit for an unusually parsimonious king. An entirely vegetarian menu offers dozens of options from classic cheese and beans to hot curry, haggis and chilli (non carne, of course), plus numerous salads available as toppings or combined to form a meal in themselves. Portions are huge: those unable to sink a titanic tattie can opt for stuffed pittas, rolls, or snack-sized pakoras and samosas. Ideally located for attracting locals, tourists and plenty of passing trade, you’ll be lucky to grab one of the handful of seats, so expect to bag a bargain and be on your way.
- High point: Great budget option in the city centre
- Low point: Limited seating
