Eating & Drinking Guide 2008

The List's Eating & Drinking Guide 2008 is now in the shops.

This review is from the 2007 edition.

Fressh is just full of exclamation marks: bright orange menus on the walls veritably burst with excitable blends of juices, designed to revitalise the office workers of the city. The pared-down monochrome décor with white-painted floor is rather cool, perhaps even a little cold on bleaker days. But an 'energy burst' made of pineapple, pear, grape and apple juice - perhaps with an added shot of spirulina or ginseng - will lift the spirits. It should provide a vital dose of manganese to keep the body in good repair, as well. (One can learn a lot about nutrition reading the 'Fressh facts' on the walls.) Hot soups provide further healthy blends of, er, fressh ingredients. Sandwiches and salads come on a standard base of crispy leaves, peppers and carrots, with a little pot of dressing on the side to let folk take responsibility for their own fat intake. Goat's cheese and roasted vegetables on malted bread may be a bit heavy on the peppers, but it shows healthy can be hearty, too. The food is just fine, but the juices are the star of the show.
