A leisurely drive along country roads between Glasgow and Stirling brings you to the Inn at Kippen. During colder months, the Inn has a comforting feel, with a welcoming open coal fire radiating warmth throughout the cosy dining space while the buzz of friendly local chatter spills through from the adjacent bar. Warm loaves of fresh, nutty brown bread come with a board and knife for you to cut your own chunks, providing a cute reinforcement of the homely vibe. A generous round of black pudding stacked on a potato pancake makes for a promising starter, the earthy meatiness balancing well with the creamy yolk of the accompanying poached duck egg. A cherry tomato tartlet, on the other hand, is let down by an eggy filling that makes the filo pastry a tad soggy. For mains, a large moist breast of chicken is stuffed with thyme and wrapped in bacon, served with a creamy chunk of Dauphinoise potatoes and a delicate though perhaps unnecessary Madeira jus, while a pan-fried fillet of halibut balances on a stack of crushed new potatoes and just wilted baby spinach. Friendly waiting staff are efficient, if perhaps even a little too swift to be truly in keeping with the relaxed country retreat atmosphere.
- High point: Welcoming rural retreat
- Low point: Pasty pastry

The Inn at KippenReport -
Went here a couple of months as I used to live quite near Kippen and was passing through the area. What a difference!! The new owners are on the ball, and the whole place is friendly and welcoming and we ended up staying there for a lot longer than expected, having had a fantastic but simple country meal of haddock and chips in the restaurant, then stayed in the bar, in front of the wood burning stove chatting away to the locals! Staff are friendly and competent (and dare I say - my girlfriend will kill me - beautiful), and the whole place sort of reminds you of your best friends living room!!
Would recommend to anyone!

Lovely restaurant and brilliant staff, great fresh food, particularly the fresh fish, waitresses very friendly and accomodating. New management have definitely made their mark 12 months on after building from the previous poor reputation. Would certainly recommend.

You will need to update this pub for 2009 as it is under new ownership. Unfortunately it ihas suffered instead of improving. The food is lacking, the owners unfriendly and pompous, and the staff generally untrained in restaurant duties. Pity - the decor is much improved and bodes well on entering - but sadly, everything else is sub-standard.
