In Italy, when it comes to dining, appearances count for little and it’s all about the food. Such is the case at Torna Sorrento, which could all too easily be dismissed by passers-by as just another Italian café with a rather stark interior and basic furnishings. However, the regulars know better, and are lucky to enjoy the hard work of chef and owner Mario Pignatiello who puts the emphasis on fresh ingredients cooked to order. The pasta then is deliciously al dente and tastes home-made, with the Sorrento special a star performer – king prawns and sea bass in a fabulous creamy sauce served with your choice of pasta. As if excellent cooking was not enough, there are great value menus, like the express lunch (two courses for £6) and the lunch and pre-theatre menus (two courses for £10) which include the sea bass cartoccio, baked in foil with vegetables. There is quality in the impressive wine list too, and the all-round flavour is authentic, top-notch Italian food served in a relaxed, informal atmosphere.
- High point: Genuinely food like mamma used to make
- Low point: The unassuming/unnoticeable facade

Was back last saturday night. Food was a bit disappointing. My salami crostini with mozzarella was more like spready cheese. Pasta with garlic and olive oil was swimming in oil, georgous king prawns though. I fancied bread and butter pudding on it's own and was warned it might be dry !!!! It was !!!
On the plus side the red wine was lovely , the staff are lovely and the rest of my party enjoyed.

I took my relatives who were visiting to this restaurant. The food was superb, the service even better and the staff were fantastic with the two year old, gave her toys to play with etc. Would definetly recommend Torna Sorrento to everyone!
