Eating & Drinking Guide

The 2011/12 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).

This review is taken from the 2010 edition.

In April 2010, Monster Mash relocates a grand total of 15m up the road. But fans need not fear: the biggest change will simply be more space to spend your money. As 20 Forrest Road will see restaurant seating for 65, private dining for 25 and outdoor tables for 20, you will now be able to tuck into your sausage and mash in a pleasing range of locations. The simple but effective menu will remain the same, as will the opening hours. Local, grass-fed Scottish beef will fill your home-made steak pie, and free-range pork will make up your sausages. Takeaways will be a wallet-friendly £3–£4. The familiarly retro theme will travel to the new location, in both décor and food. The puddings sum it up: banana split, apple crumble and knickerbocker glory – pretentious no, fun yes. Similarly with the cheeky wine list: 'definitely sausage friendly' doesn't tell you much about the vino, but it will put a smile on your face, and that's what Monster Mash does best. [Not yet open in new location at time of going to press.]

2. MUMS, FORREST ROAD – 2 June 2010, 4:38pmMonster MashReport

In the interest's of fairness and public perception, we would like to clarify the fact that Monster Mash Cafe has moved in NAME only. The reality for the public is that the creative team who created Monster Mash Cafe almost 7 years ago, are still in place, at 4a Forrest Road - but the name has changed!

Whatever it is in 20 Forrest Road, bears no resemblance to anything that was created by us.

MUMS GREAT COMFORT FOOD will be serving 'top nosh at half the cost' from Thursday 3 June 2010, and the public can judge for themselves.

'Nuff said really!

I love monster mash. The bangers are great and the steak pie is as good as my mum's!

Get yourself there.
