Eating & Drinking Guide

The 2011/12 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).

Once one of the best kept secrets in the Glasgow curry sphere, the Village is now established as one of the places for inexpensive, real Indian dishes (albeit necessitating a trip to slightly grim Tradeston). The café/takeaway on the ground floor is about as basic as it gets, but for more comfort during the evenings, go upstairs to the proper dining room. No alcohol is allowed, so try a jug of lassi instead. [Not recently visited]

The faulty Towers of take away........

I have used the village for 5 years, the food is great but the service and delivery time is appalling, i would go so far to say horrific, hence the reason i will not be back. An hour and a half for delivery time and 3 phone calls and part of the order was wrong, this is a typical of the service you should expect from the Village. The first call advised the delivery had left, the second advised also it had left and on the 3rd call i was told it only left after the 2nd call. When the order was wrong i was given various excuses about preparation time, being busy (at 9pm on a sunday night?) and only having one delivery driver.

The village is by no means a cheap take away and the service is horrific, the manager was unsympathetic and only able to refund the meal that was wrong, even after the numerous calls and unacceptable delivery time. My advice is to think twice about ordering home delivery from the village, it is always invariably wrong and takes in excess of an hour to be delivered.

One week on and my refund has still not been processed. When I called the village tonight i was told by the guy on the phone that Just Eat (who i placed the ordered with) were telling "porky pies"... have you ever heard the likes? When will this place own up and recognize that customer service and ownership goes a LONG way? continuing to operate like this and blame other businesses AND people in their own business will eventually see them fold? A joke outfit!

My husband and I have eaten in the village for quite a few years. We hadn't been in Glasgow for a while till last week, so decided to give ourselves a treat and have lunch there. the food is brilliant. the service is so good we were out in less than half an hour !!! We parked in the restaurant's car park as we have always done. Imagine our horror to return home today, after another lunchtime visit to find an £80 parking fine in the post !!!!!!!! Where was the sign or for that matter the ticket machine ? No wonder the carpark was almost empty!!!!!! We probably won't be back. Nowhere else to park !

I went there with my husband and my daughter last week and we absolutely loved the food. The staff were excellent and we definately felt cared for!
Unfortunately I have to agree with Andy1 above. The toilets upstairs were a disgrace as well. I was relieved to find that I had put anti bacterial wipes in my bag. So sad that and important thing like this can let the whole place down.

The Village is my all time favourite curry destination in Glasgow. However the toilets in the downstairs cafe are little short of disgraceful. No hot water, no soap, no paper towels and a broken hand dryer plus the place could do with a deep clean too. The management is showing little respect for their customers by allowing this situation to continue especially since it would take only a little bit of effort and a few quid to fix it. The food is without doubt five star but the bogs drag the place down and that's a real shame.

please disregard the above notice, we have had over 30 home deliveries and had perhaps one mistake, which was rectified apologetically. This place is for foodies only- no booze, no ambience, no glamour, just exceptionally good quality, skillfully blended curries. I Cannot commend it highly enough. But don't get home delivery, make the effort to go there and take a look at the fresh display and the chefs all cooking. It's mind booglingly good fun!

Don't bother trying home delivery from this establishment. Waited 2 and a half hours, with nothing but excuses. Delivery finally arrived, and I just sent it back.

They have no interest in Customer Service.
