The 2011/12 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).
This review is taken from the current (2011) edition.
With its filmic décor and location above the cinema, the recently rebranded Grosvenor Café offers a great opportunity for a movie and a meal night-out. The striking and cavernous venue, lit by spotlights adorning the walls, has silent movie clips playing in the background, while the chill-out and jazz soundtrack, coupled with weekly live piano performances, give the place a cultivated vibe with sophisticated cocktails to match – both the Emily Emily and the Basil Grande have tantalisingly sharp, fruity flavours. The food is mainly crowd-pleasing pub standards – battered fish, roast chicken, burger, pastas – yet the standard is still high without rolling out the red carpet. The pie of the day, such as sausage and mushroom, is neatly served on a chopping board, alongside hand-cut chips. There are various pizzas offered on a 2-for-1 deal – a popular choice with the students and young professionals who fill the bar at evenings and weekends. Desserts include the quirky Nutella and marscapone calzone, which shines out among the more standard puddings on the menu.
- High point: Beautifully restored ceiling and smart décor
- Low point: Size means it can lack atmosphere during off-peak

I love the food from here and have been often, service has always been fabulous too. However I telephoned the restaurant to see if they had disabled access, as I wanted to take my mother for lunch. Was told that yes that wouldn't be a problem and when would I like to go?
I asked them to verify what access they had, was it a lift, escalator etc? She said 'oh your mother is disabled (the very reason I had phoned was this girl listening to me?) that would be no problem.
Again I asked her to verify what access they actually had. She said there was a lift up to the main bar however the mezzanine where food was served had no disabled access but it was fine as there would be waiters to help!!!!! OMG did she think I was going to put my mother through the embarrassment of having waitors lift her up stairs in full view of everyone at the bar????? Is this girl insane???

Good food, drinks all at affordable prices
Right in the heart of Ashton Lane where there's always a buzz.
Great if you have kids, there's plenty for them to play with and space to run about.
it gets quite busy at weekends, so best to head in to beat the crowds at the weekends.

as a family we find the loft child friendly and often go here for lunch at the weekends. There are lots of toys and entertainment for kids, which allows you to sit back and enjoy your lunch.
The food is reasonably priced and good.
id say pop in on a sunday afternoon.

I went to The Loft for a hen doo the other night (21 March). There were 19 of us in total. The food was appalling; and the service wasn't any better.
It verged on the edge of being a pub where you would catch food poisoning.
For example - and this is with no exageration -
1. meatballs weren't cooked. You couldn't even get the knife through them, becase they were still frozen!
2. the lasagne was served lukewarm. One of the party even had a lasagne that was frozen in the middle
On service, it took a full hour for the food to be served. Having returned the food, waited another 30 minutes for other fresh food to arrive. When that came cold, the best the staff could offer was a replacement sandwich!
And to make matters worse, the staff didn't even have the decency, never mind the professionalism to take the cost of the meals which were frozen off the bill or apologise.
Rating of 1 star is far too generous, but essential to actually get review posted.

So it looked nice and the menu was mouth watering but the food took ages to come, the gnocchi starter was burnt and drenched in a cheddary sauce with 2 bits of wilted spinach (nothing like the description) we went it back . Main was spaghetti in a tomato ? sauce which was totally bland with very little evidence of any tomatoes .My friends pork was tough and dry and sitting on top of a pile of roasted vegetables( or burnt sweet potato ) as it turned out. The pudding wasn' t bad but i would advise staying in and cooking something yourself , you couldnt do much worse.
