Like any café worth its ketchup in the New York district it takes its name from, Tribeca specialises in brunch. Specifically, egg-based brunches. They’re rather famous for it, too; on weekends it’s nigh impossible to get a table in this cosy little Kelvingrove hipster hang-out, and the waiting staff, often brusque at peak times, will chase you out of the door if you hang around. However, if you do get a seat there’s thoroughly decent coffee to sweeten the pill, and an entire A4 side of the menu devoted to proper NYC-style brunching: endless variations on eggs Benedict come propped up on fat, substantial bagels rather than the less-satisfying English muffins favoured by other West End breakfast spots. Even hardcore egg enthusiasts will struggle with the immense five-egg omelettes and equally robust ‘meat feast’ breakfasts, and there are soups and sandwiches available for more delicate diners. During the week, though, everyone chills out, and Tribeca morphs into a laid-back laptop hotspot.

- Low point: Open 'em and you're still on Dumbarton Road

Don't go here if you are in a hurry! Although the food was really good, tasty and large protions. Service was very slow and both waiting staff didn't seem very with it, think they'd had a heavier night than us the night before! It took 20 minutes for our table to be cleared, another 10 minutes before they took our order because the waiter couldn't find a pen! Our drinks arrived after the food, as did the cutlery! Luckily we weren't too hungry when we arrived, but by the time the food actually came, we were starving! The cafe only has about 8 tables and with two waiting staff, the wait was really ridiculous.
