The increased popularity of Japanese food in Britain over the last few years is in no small part down to this national chain of noodle bars that now number more than 60 across Britain. The original Glasgow branch in West George Street is easily reached from all the main shopping thoroughfares and city centre offices, while its younger sister is to be found in the Silverburn shopping centre. Both can get pretty busy at peak times, though queues move quickly, as customers are whisked down to their bench seats by hip young staff. Favourite orders include katsu curries and teppan-fried noodle dishes; side orders like gyozas (steamed Japanese dumplings) and yakitori (skewered, marinated chicken). But more than any of these, diners tend to opt for the ‘ramen’ - zesty, hearty big bowls of ramen noodles in broth, filled with thinly sliced meat (or seafood) and lots of eastern vegetables. Slurping is encouraged. RESEARCH REVIEW
- High point: Far better than most ‘chain’ restaurants
- Low point: A wee bit more expensive than some others in this section

Visited this eating place today for a four courser for 4 of us. Clean neat and tidy. However we where served by a national not Japanese. In fact there are no Japanese personnel whatsoever working here. I asked. For food cooked after you have ordered, it arrived at our table in under three minutes! (must get their organisational skills at my home) Portions where limited, standard rice and noodle dishes with nothing fancier than made at home. (takes more than three minutes at home) Nice plates, bowls, cuttlery - not edible but nice - and wooden tables (ikea?)
Prices? well if you are subject to the Veblem effect, its value. If not, you might want to go to the Oriental Buffets instead for good value.
