Location is key for this trendy city centre bar/brasserie in the G1 Group's stable of stylish ventures. A huge square bar dominates the interior space, surrounded by dark wooden tables and leather pouffes. A mixture of suits and pre-clubbers rub shoulders with ease, along with a smattering of diners. The large menu concentrates on pizzas, burgers, pastas and wraps. But more substantial meals are available, such as an 8oz sirloin steak – thick and juicy, dripping with garlic butter and served with home-made onion rings and chips. You might keep some room for dessert. The hot chocolate fondant is surprisingly light and oozes a rich dark chocolate centre, balanced with some tart, ripe raspberries on the side. Weekend brunch is served from 10am, featuring full-on Scottish breakfasts, as well as more delicate dishes such as smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. Half-price pizza and pasta offers are available throughout the week: along with student discounts and a cheap kids' menu, they make this an affordable option.
- High point: Good deals on food all day, every day
- Low point: More bar than brasserie
