La Partenope's new afternoon trading hours offer West End nine-to-fivers a convenient haven for a late-in-the-day work meeting. But be warned – once you sample a little something from the interesting nibbles menu and extensive regional wine list, you might just be tempted to settle in for dinner as well. Smiling staff greet you as you enter this laid-back family-run Neapolitan restaurant on Dalry Road and the seamless service continues throughout your visit. Fish and seafood devotees are well catered for here, and the house specials, including the linguine All'Astice – lobster pasta – keep loyal locals returning again and again. But first-time visitors could lose their way with the all-encompassing and somewhat hit-and-miss à la carte menu. The mare nel piatto (a lip-smackingly satisfying 'seafood feast sautéed with garlic, chilli and wine) is unbeatable value for money as a starter or main, but the pesce spada portafoglio – swordfish stuffed with scamorza cheese – lacks any real punch for its pricetag and is let down by overcooked and poorly presented vegetables. A range of bog standard desserts is not the most sophisticated way to end your La Partenope experience – you'd be better off skipping pudding and retiring to the sleek bar/chill-out area for a nightcap.

seafood was good but wasn't struck at all by the charm and was told that there wasn't children's portions. Despite me asking twice for the price I was told that a small marguerita pizza for my 10 year old son would be 'not very much' ie waiter couldn't seem to be bothered to go and get the menu. When bill came in at £6.10 for the pizza he said 'that is cheap'. The guy obviously doesn't have kids and didn't really give a toss that I felt I had been misled.

I have eaten here several times over the last few years and generally found it good however after a recent visit I was very disappointed.
I had arranged to visit on a recent Friday night with a party of four and after numerous requests for the "normal" menu which is on display in front of the restaurant I was told that this menu was not available at weekends-only the "Specials" one was on (I suspect they are contravening the Trade Descriptions Act)
Needless to say the "Specials" menu had most items at twice the price of the normal one & I found this frustrating. In the past I have been able to mix & match from the specials & the normal one but this time I was left feeling duped. Additionally up until recently I noticed that their house wine Multipulchiano (approx £14) is the one exact same available for sale at the nearby Lidl (for £2.98) . We was visit to La Partenope on last Thursday night, We see a famous T V presenter with he friends, after they leave, I just a nosey, I ask the staff, what the T V presenter eat? the staff told me ( they come for dinner at 5pm with three people, after he leave for a few hour, he came back,on the same night with more people, seven of them, he also write visit book for la partenope. )Wow !! it was a fantastic place,presentation of the food is very high standard, this little restaurant among the best five in town,very good food,I would highly recommend.
