The Cameo has recently had a makeover, making it one of the sexiest new additions to the Leith eatery scene. It now has all the markings of a classy joint, from subdued lighting to a giant gold statue towering over the front area. The drinks selection lives up to this impression, with a well-stocked bar and a wine list to cover all tastes. The menu is also, at first glance, thoughtful and wide-ranging. Ciabattas and baked potatoes are available for a simple snack, while the fish and chips are seductively described as 'fresh, crispy, beer-battered haddock with chunky chips and peas'. Cut through the waffle, and the range is still good, but very thin on the ground for vegetarians, with their main course option limited to ratatouille pasta, which is generous and rich, but a tad boring. Carnivores are treated well - the moist chicken breast wrapped in bacon with barbecue sauce and cheese is a delicious option, especially with the scrumptious chunky chips. And everyone can enjoy the garlic bread that is as flavoursome as you always hope garlic bread will be. It's early days for the newly relaunched Cameo, and things are looking very bright already.
