Eating & Drinking Guide

The 2011/12 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).

This review is taken from the current (2011) edition.

The welcome here tells you that these people care about your evening. The décor, like the service is smart, crisp and metropolitan. The restaurant is out of town but near Cathcart railway station, so do come by train in order to take advantage of the aperitifs on offer – nine varieties of gin, countless vodkas and malt whiskies. The starter of sole and scallops is simply cooked allowing the fresh taste of the seafood to shine through. The pasta in the lobster ravioli was fresh – but the lobster taste was too subtle. You know the roast salmon main is wild because it is so much darker in colour than the more common farmed variety. It's a lot meatier and tastier as well, of course. Leave room for dessert, the chocolate mousse is rich but not clawing helped by the citrus flavours in the accompanying orange sorbet. Cheesecake of the day was toffee and arguably the best in – or out – of town. Coffee comes with tablet and amaretti to round off a great feel-good dining experience.

  • High point: A wonderful atmosphere and wine list
  • Low point: Not enough lobster in the lobster ravioli
