Amanda and Graham Nash fell in love with France, so they decided to bring home what they'd found and the result is this wee French café and deli in Tollcross. The little bell that jangles cheerfully as you enter gives way to the sound of locals from the French community chatting over their coffee and croissant. 1920s jazz murmurs in the background and classic Le Chat Noir-style posters and baskets of dried flowers add inviting and homey touches. Specialist goodies and small producer wines, meticulously sourced in France by Amanda and Graham, line the shelves. Beyond this, the deli counter tantalises with delectably pretty tartes loaded with strawberries and crème pâtissière alongside raclette and Saint-Félicien cheeses. Artisan baking is a draw here, and the baguettes are every bit as good as the pastries – eat in or takeaway – and crammed with saucisson, smoked ham or one of those unctuous cheeses. There are hot dishes too, including a spinach and emmental crêpe or a crunchy and child-friendly croque monsieur. It's the real (French) deal, and there is plenty to take home – be it a bottle of Breton cider or a Toulouse sausage for your own cassoulet or barbecue.
- High point: Authentic French eats
- Low point: Beware of afternoon pram pile-ups
