Eating & Drinking Guide 2008

The List's Eating & Drinking Guide 2008 is now in the shops.

This review is from the 2007 edition.

'All you can eat' at the two China Buffet King outlets in Glasgow means fast food in convivial atmospheres with a reasonable choice at buffets that are replenished frequently. The style is open and airy, with capacity for big groups (and large appetites). Plates are whisked quickly away, so there's little chance that anyone can offer dark looks in regards to how much you've had. The West Nile Street branch (between Gordon Street and St Vincent Street) is less handy than the first CBK up on the always busy Sauchiehall Street, but bargain prices remain a strong pull and it's close to Central Station. There is a range of Chinese staples (lemon chicken or varieties of beef and pork) and curries, as well as helpings of fresh fish on most evenings. Two sorts of salmon - smoked strips and plump, pink fillets - as well as haddock might feature in the 'healthy' zone. Starters include soups and spring rolls; puddings focus on fritters, as well as the more European apple strudel, gateaux, jellies and ice-cream.
