Moyra Jane's, housed in a former bank, has a tea-room style: it has marble-topped tables and wooden chairs, mahogany panelling with art for sale, and a polished counter showcasing indulgent cakes and sticky pastries. The menu serves up an array of home-made dishes without any gimmicks or bombast. Scrumptious breakfast options in the morning are followed by old stalwarts, such as mince and tatties or overflowing bowls of chilli. Portions are robust. The house burger is packed with meaty flavours, smothered in cheese and served in a ciabatta bun. The sugary treats may keep you deliberating for a while: will it be a creamy banoffee pie, cheesecake piled high with berries or a thick slice of moist gingerbread to have with a Bei and Nanini coffee? A shorter evening menu has been recently introduced, with extended opening hours for much of the week.
