Eating & Drinking Guide

The 2011/12 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).

This review is taken from the current (2011) edition.

Popular with families, large groups, lunching ladies and youngsters who pop in for a chat over hot chocolate, Italian-inspired iKafe has been frequented by Pollokshields locals for more than a decade. Café-style décor enables visitors to enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner in a relaxed atmosphere. Chunky brick pillars divide the restaurant into semi-private dining quarters, making it perfect for a sit-down meal, an intimate meeting, or a quick drink or snack. With an astonishingly elaborate menu, there are no less than 26 ‘little plates’ from which to choose your starter – ranging from Parma ham, brie and grapes, to lamb kofta with yogurt and mint dressing. The pastas and other meaty main dishes – sea bass, lamb, chicken and beef – are all halal. With daily specials such as the delicious oven-baked polenta with rich tomato ratatouille sauce and topped with thin layers of goat's cheese, you will always be spoilt for choice.

  • High point: Popular with locals
  • Low point: Freshness is compromised due to large menu

Reviews of iKafe (138 Nithsdale Road, Glasgow)

1. Better The Devil You Know, Glasgow – 9 September 2009, 2:22pm4 starsiKafeReport

Had lunch here with two colleagues and all agreed this was pretty decent, especially given the location. Service was excellent, quick and friendly, exactly what you want. Ordered chicken ceasar salad, seafood salad and thai duck, all choices were excellent. A few side orders also, which weren't really necessary as mains were well supplied with ingredients. Two ordered deserts and I have to say, coming from someone who doesn't particularly enjoy deserts, my colleagues raved about these so much, it compelled me to do this review, I think that speaks for itself. Overall cost for 3 @ lunch not bad I suppose, could do with some lunchtime specials to bring the cost down slightly, but quality and service would definitely see me return, if nothing else but to try the seabass which is so wonderfully described on the menu. Should give this a try, I know we will again.
