The 2011/12 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).
There's no hiding Marynka's raison d'être – right at the front door is a fish counter for those who prefer their oysters and lemon sole at home. Everything on display is rushed up the road from Eyemouth each day, and the freshness throughout the menu is undeniable. The restaurant at first looks like a cramped afterthought next to the steady flow of shoppers, but tucked away at the back is a simple, open space filled with the buzz of contented locals and effusive – but not intrusive – service. Marynka's seafood is served with minimal fuss: plump grilled langoustines with garlic butter; seared scallops with a little crispy bacon and a dab of lime crème fraiche. Smoked haddock risotto is pungent and rich and mussels enlivened with a clean blast of coriander and lemongrass, although the creamy fish pie could handle a touch more seasoning. There's no fancifying of whiting 'goujons' – it's actually one big goujon that appears on the plate – but the mix of flaky fish and crunchy breadcrumbs is just right. The passion for seafood is matched in the 12-page wine list, full of enthused mini-essays rather than descriptions.
- High point: Fish at its freshest
- Low point: Can get draughty

We have not visited this restaurant since it was taken over but we went for dinner on our anniversary as we wanted to try somewhere different.
This place is wonderful! Clean, bright, perfect ambiance and Patrick was an excellent host
It has a real European feel to it The food was marvellous everything freshly made (try their ice cream!!)
I couldn’t recommend this place enough a real gem and at a very reasonable price we will definitely be returning.

I can't agree with the above comments after my experience at the week-end. I am vegetarian and as such I am well used to eating whatever the chef provides but I find it insulting that so much effort is made for the meat and fish eaters while I was given a plate of couscous( a very cheap filler) and a few slices of aubergine. It was boring unimaginative and didn't taste of very much. Insult was added to injury when I had to pay a surcharge for a cheese plate. The cheese was cut so thinly I have to praise the knife skills of the person who cut it! I know I am in a minority group but if you don't want to cater for vegetarians please say and we will eat elsewhere . if you do want our custom then a little more thought would be appreciated. I felt ripped off and I won't be back which means my meat and fish eating friends won't be back either. I would like to add that I am not a crusading vegetarian who can't stand other people eating meat, I cook meat for my family and friends I just choose not to eat it myself.

My wife and I have eaten at Marynka several times since we moved to the area. We have yet to be disappointed with any aspect of the restaurant. The food is consistently excellent, the service is attentive without being intrusive, and the wine is varied and excellent at all values.
We use Marynka for celebration meals, and as such we will always be visiting on occasion unless in the unlikely event of the standards deteriorating.
May it continue to be succesful in the future.

We have eaten at Marynka over the years and thoroughly enjoyed both the ambience and of course the food.
Being rather fond of seafood the appearance of the fish counter was a real bonus for us, not the easist area historically to buy such good produce. Shortly after we booked dinner and were extermely satisfied with every aspect of the meal, any minor concerns we may have had had about the new ownership changing the quality on offer evaporated.
The food rolling out of the kitchen was not over complex but very effective and the sauces and vegetable accompaniments in no way overshadowed the quality of the main ingredient.
The service was friendly, knowledgable and enthusiastic.
Fairly priced wine list too with a good selection of traditional european and some new world offerings.
If going for Dinner have a light lunch you really will want to savour a full three course experience here.
We will be back - often......
