The interior of Dunbarton Road’s Riviera Ristorante is decked out like an Italian courtyard. A beach-front is painted on one wall, as arched doorways and dark-wood panelling all lend themselves to the kitschy holiday feel. The staff are friendly and relaxed enough not to shatter the illusion, chatting happily to the customers and keen to give recommendations. The menu consists of Italian favourites cooked with an obvious knowledge of tastes and flavours. With a pre-theatre menu for just £7.95 for two well-cooked, high-quality courses, Riviera is surely offering one of the best early-dining deals the area has to offer. Starters include a rich and spicy penne arrabiatta, and fresh mussels cooked in garlic, white wine and parsley. The selection of main courses is equally generous - with around 15 options to choose from, it’s easy to see why Riviera has proven such a hit with locals.
- High point: One of the best pre-theatre deals in the city
- Low point: Bit of a wait for table on Friday and Saturday nights
