Standing proudly at the top of Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow Royal Concert Hall is an impressive and vast building. Very little marketing surrounds their first floor restaurant, which affords some of the best views in the city from their full length windows. The large room has an opulent feel, with thick cream carpets, large chandeliers and crisp white tablecloths. Quiet chattering can be heard over soft jazz music piped throughout. Their menu stays bang on season and changes every two months to reflect this. Starters may include a seared salmon fillet with herby puy lentils or perhaps a creamy pea risotto with market fresh king prawns – basil and mint lift the dish, keeping it light and fresh. The handful of mains are predominantly fish and meat – try the pork cutlet, the meat can be a little tough and probably slightly overcooked but the crispy black pudding balls make up for it, while the apple and white bean accompaniment works well by adding another dimension to the flavour and texture. Opening times are erratic and booking a table can be troublesome but overall, worth a visit.
- High point: High quality, ever changing menu
- Low point: Strange opening hours means most of us miss out

The restaurant in the Royal Concert Hall is currently under refubishment. The new look "ooh-la-la" Green Room will be open in September for the start of the next concert season. Perfect for a pre-concert meal safe in the knowledge that you are only a short distance from your seat in the auditorium.
