Arcaffe is an unassuming place that might be mistaken for a coffee shop or sandwich takeaway due to its exterior décor. Under new ownership since 2007, it has a slight 'in transition' feel about it, and as this guide went to press there were plans to open in the evening. Local business lunchers seem to make up most of the clientele at present and it's just a shame they probably don't have time to take a siesta after clearing up the massive portions on offer. The penne norcina, with a herby tomato sauce, Italian sausage and ricotta cheese, is perfectly al dente and satisfying, and the bruschetta – something so easy to get wrong – has just the right combination of oil, garlic and tomatoes. Salads, meat and fish dishes and pizza make up the rest of the menu and those with an appetite the size of Naples could go for one of the weekly-changing desserts: the apple pie with a ton of toffee sauce isn't just decadent – it's almost criminal.
- High point: Huge portions
- Low point: Hike for city centre clients
