Domenico's name has changed slightly to reflect the new ownership – Stefano Di Domenico has joined his wife Dellita at the helm of this hidden gem following the retirement of his father-in-law. However, the cosy atmosphere and well deserved reputation for excellent food and hearty portions remains intact at this place, which oozes Mediterranean charm. The mirror-lined walls give an impression of greater space than is actually the case in the long, narrow dining room as you mull over whether to opt for bruschetta – four well proportioned slices of crunchy bread topped with a choice of toppings and creatively presented on a wooden board – or salads (also available as takeaway) or perhaps soup of the day. Alongside a selection of pasta dishes are meat and poultry, including chicken stuffed with pesto and topped with mozzarella to create an explosion of flavours, or seafood, such as tuna draped in a sauce made from aubergines, black olives, courgettes, capers and tomatoes that evokes Italian sunshine on even the bleakest of days in Leith. Desserts feature the same selection of cheese and biscuits that are offered as a starter, as well as the more prosaic tiramisu or deliciously gooey white chocolate profiteroles.
