This review is taken from the current (2011) edition.
Although dark and slightly forbidding from the outside, hinting that the dining experience beyond these doors may be a serious and formal affair, inside it is relaxed and cosy with a fun, kitschy bent to the décor, reminiscent of the best tourist restaurants in Italy itself. La Fiorentina is popular with the maturer Glaswegian, much favoured for family celebrations and special nights out as well as those taking advantage of its early dining deals. A recent change of ownership after 20 years has injected the business with a fresh lease of life; their tireless new host is full of ideas and special offers and a dinner dance night is planned. The food is staunchly traditional and confidently prepared, full of comforting, well-loved flavours. As a starter, the chef’s special fishcakes are delicately crispy and packed full of fresh, flaky fish that goes surprisingly well with the sweet chilli sauce accompaniment. Pizzas are light and have a thin, crisp, stone-baked base – tasty enough to be enjoyed even after your stomach says stop.
- High point: Authentic food in a homely setting
- Low point: Rubbery calamari

REPLY TO JACKETLESS IN GLASGOW 9.11.2009
Thank you for your comments regarding the food, service and atmosphere. Please Note: with reference to your jacket we did inform you by telephone that it was taken by another customer by mistake but returned the next day and we were waiting for you collect it.REPLY TO BAD FOOD HATER Valentines Day 14.2.2010
With reference to your comments I would like to say how sorry I am that you didn’t enjoy your experience at La Fiorentina for food and service. However, I must disagree with you as our food is freshly prepared daily and all of our staff are both professional and accommodating. On that particular day we started serving at 12pm with last orders at 8.30pm using a fixed menu which had 10 starters and 10 main courses to choose from. We had 350 customers booked and we actually served 400 all day and believe me you were the only one who didn’t enjoy your meal.

This restaurant truly was the single worst experience I have ever had whilst eating out. The main courses tasted like they had been cooked several days in advance - the vegetables were tough and barely warm, and the 'aberdeen angus beef' tasted more like card. Although we were assured that the meals were 'freshly prepared', they were on our table within 3-4 minutes of ordering, which led us to believe otherwise. The customer service was extremely unpleasant, and when we highlighted the fact that our food was sub-standard and we were not willing to pay, the manager practically shouted that he didnt care and if we didnt pay he would call the police. The worst £40 I have ever spent in my whole life - if there was a 0 out of 5 I would definitely have given it. Disgusting!

Food was fantastic and a great atmosphere could only be matched by the great service. Don't give your jacket to the restaurant manager though! She may insist that someone in your group has taken it when really they have given your jacket to a complete stranger and you'll never see it again. A cold wait for a taxi is a terrible way to end a night (especially on Paisley Road West).

Superb food and wonderful atmosphere and even better Angoris Cabernet Sauvignon of which we bought several cases of next door at their wine shop, now closed. Can't seem to find it anywhere else....HELP.
