Eating & Drinking Guide

The 2011/12 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).

Papa Gill’s is a modest Indian catering to the Dumbarton Road locals and late night drinkers of Partick. Set on two floor the small restaurant is functional rather than traditional and is popular with an older crowd especially during the day when the menu includes a variety of breakfast and lunch dishes such a well priced full Scottish breakfasts, filled rolls, steak pie and a variety of other decidedly non-Indian dishes. In the evening the full range of standard Indian dishes are offered at reasonable prices. A pre-theatre deal of starter/curry/rice is on offer for the knockdown price of £6.95. A set meal for two includes all the usual side dishes for £20.95. The late opening makes it very useful when other outlets have long stopped serving. As well as curries, kormas and pakoras there is a also a large menu of pizzas.

  • High point: Decent local joint with good prices
  • Low point: Rather mixed-up menu

We're regulars. Child requests we go there often. Been on my own a few times and enjoyed it, particularly the breakfast. Enjoy a good curry there with friends. LOVED the santa painting on the window last Christmas. Great place with character.

I LOVE this place. There is a great selection of lunches, all at fantastic prices. The staff are efficient and friendly, and the restaurant itself is comfortable and cosy.
