PJ, the owner of the restaurant (which used to be Panjea) apparently has ‘mad visions’ of curries in his dreams. This could explain some of the more inspired dishes on the menu, such as almond-honey curry, tandoori trout and banana pakora. But it’s not just the adventurous who are catered for – safety can be found in all the usual favourites, alongside a wide variety of other fantastic creations. And don’t be mistaken – these curries aren’t just tasty – they’re also ‘good for you’ – the menu details all of the health benefits found in the individual spices used. For starters, ‘magic mushrooms’ – deep fried mushrooms with a hint of lemon dusted with five secret spices - don’t quite live up to their name, the lemon flavour adding an unusual tartness to the fleshy fungi. For main courses, the fish masala sizzler is a wonderful dish – a meaty slab of cod, served spitting and hissing from the tandoor - is bursting with the sizzling spicy flavours of ginger, cumin and capsicums. The high-ceilinged, laminate floored dining room has a modern feel, whilst upstairs plays host to the infamous ‘curry-karaoke’ evenings. The karaoke buffet is designed for larger parties who like belly-dancers, Elvis impersonators and a member of staff called Delhi Belly alongside their lamb korma and chicken pakora.
- High point: Unique menu
- Low point: Non-stop cheesy Euro-trance on the stereo
