With a restaurant also in chef/owner Michael Smith's home town of Uddingston (call 01698 818444), Smith's first opened across from the now revived City Halls in 1999. Going on a decade later, the relaxed bistro still features French-influenced dishes such as haggis-stuffed chicken supreme wrapped in smoked bacon with braised potato and roasted turnip or seared fillets of seabass with crushed spring onion potatoes, wilted spinach and fennel cream. Smith's restaurants also do a set-lunch/early evening menu Tuesday to Wednesday noon-9pm and Thursday to Saturday (Sunday, as well, in Uddingston) noon-7pm (tables back by 7.15pm).
