Bath Street has seen many a pub come and go but Moskito is now something of an old hand, having been trading steadily here since 2000. This seems largely due to its ability to appeal to a mixed crowd, offering a wide variety of beers, a comprehensive cocktail list and a menu full of simple Mediterranean dishes made from quality ingredients. The adjoining pool room can't hurt either, and the décor is simple with wooden booths and blue-hued walls. The menu includes light bites such as home-made red pepper hummus with lightly toasted pitta and a tasty side salad of leaves, tomatoes and olives. Cooked in a sunblush tomato sauce with spinach and generous amounts of ricotta, the penne pasta is creamy without being too heavy. Other fine options include the thin-crust pizza, which comes with toppings such as Parma ham, heaped rocket and balsamic vinegar. Desserts feature banoffee cheesecake and strawberry wafflecake, which could benefit from a little more strawberry sauce. Having acquired a late alcohol licence – and with food served well into the night too – Moskito now has DJs playing every night bar Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
