With its diner-style booths, a bottle of ketchup on every table and retro road signs for decoration, the Filling Station is aiming for a classic US roadhouse feel. The long menu concentrates on burgers, hot sandwiches, steaks and salads, together with a big choice of Italian –or rather Italian American –dishes, including spaghetti with meatballs, and Hawaiian pizza with pineapple. Perhaps surprisingly, a pizza comes with a light and thin 10" base – definitely more Naples than Chicago. A few Mexican or Tex-Mex inspired dishes sneak in under the radar, as do several British specialities, like a fish-finger sandwich and a steak and ale pie. While dishes look appetising on the page, the reality can be disappointing, with an over-sweet barbecue sauce, uniformly shaped frozen chips and a miniscule paper cup of mass-produced coleslaw as a side all indicative of the general standard. Still, if you crave a take on fast food which is a little more formal and upmarket than McDonald's et al, then the Filling Station delivers. A flexible breakfast menu with things like beans on toast, and eggs any way you want, plus a good value two course lunch, help redeem things somewhat.
- High point: Convenient location
- Low point: Fails to deliver on a promising menu

Quite possibly the worst service I have ever had in a restaurant! Staff have absolutely ZERO customer service skills. Waited 10 minutes just to order a drink - and we were only served then because one of us got up and walked over to a waitress!! Food was overpriced and fairly low quality. I am surprised this place has not been shut down by now because I dont imagine they will ever get any repeat custom!

We (3people), attended the "restaurant" at about 5pm on a Friday evening, it was not busy...having waited for 5 mins to be seated, we were asked if we wanted garlic bread straight away, then the waitress disappeared, having waited nearly ten mins I had to leave my table and ask a member of staff who was more interested in chatting to her friend if we could order. We all ordered the same thing and drinks. We waited a further 10 mins for the drinks to arrive and another 15 mins or so for the food!. The staff member had a continued attitude. The steak sandwich came out with a small chewy rank piece of meat and a few chips. It was over priced for what it was!!! again we waited a further 10 mins after our table was cleared, to pay the bill, again having to prompt the staff member to get attention. the bill came to £36 for 3 sandwiches and 3 soft drinks!!...never again!!!!
