Eating & Drinking Guide

The 2011/12 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).

This review is taken from the 2010 edition.

After two decades of serving loyal Scotstoun locals, Neelim must be doing something right. Couples and families flock here, whether it be for a sit-down dinner or some takeaway dishes to enjoy at home, and it can fill up even on week nights. The menu offers standard dishes such as boonas and tikka masalas with no surprises but plenty of sauce to be mopped up with a huge, doughy naan. Heavily battered chicken drumsticks, mushrooms and other vegetables make up the filling mixed starter platter. A main course of chicken tikka boona is flavoured with ginger, garlic and plenty of shredded, fragrant coriander. The three-course high tea option offers good value: scones and jam are swapped for pakora, a curry, and perhaps a spongy, syrupy gulab jamun for dessert. A banana split is available for the less traditional and for beer drinkers there is Tennents as well as Kingfisher on tap.

  • High point: Cosy, family feel
  • Low point: Alarming red colour of some pakora and curries

My family and I used to live in Scotstoun and used Neelims a lot. Even after moving to Balloch, I used to drive through to Neelims to get a carryout for us and take it home in a thermal bag - kids were young so couldn't dine out. Last time I had something from Neelims was a few months ago and it was excellent (chicken tikka moga), ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Definitely, 10 out of 10.

I dont know how long ago the initial review was written but the restaurant has been re furbished and is definately a lot nicer inside. The food is still the same though 10 out of 10.
