This review is taken from the current (2011) edition.
Delicious, healthy and environmentally responsible, rope-grown mussels from Scotland's West Coast are currently enjoying plenty of positive media coverage, and the rather single-minded Mussel Inn is well placed to benefit from an increase in demand. The default choice on the menu here is a kilo or half-kilo pot of mussels, prepared with a choice of flavour combinations from elegant cream and white wine to robust chillies and coriander. All that's required alongside is the complimentary basket of excellent crusty bread and perhaps a crisp muscadet – a good one is served by the glass. Scallops and oysters are of similarly impeccable local provenance, and sea bass, fish cakes, salads and prawn dishes fill out the menu. There’s a token burger and a vegetarian pasta dish for the odd shellfish-refuser who ends up here – presumably by accident. A big, light-filled space, the Mussel Inn has a brisk efficiency about it that’s fully in keeping with its no-nonsense menu.
- High point: Impeccably fresh, beautifully prepared shellfish
- Low point: Side dishes are underwhelming

Mussel InnReport -
Great lunch menu with consistently well baked fresh bread, fantastic Muscadet du sevre et main and of course wonderful mussels and cullen skink. A great wee place to stop off in the city centre, where the service is both efficient and friendly and you can be guaranteed some decent scran.
