This review is taken from the current (2011) edition.
When the neatly packed two-storey Chow first opened in Byres Road it offered Glasgow an updated take on Chinese dining – the menu was simplified and the surroundings were truly contemporary. A decade or so on it feels pleasant but no longer unusual. There are few touches that differentiate it from other Chinese restaurants – chopsticks are provided as standard and a glass pot of delicate Suzi tea ‘blooms’ beautifully through the meal. Crispy seaweed provides a lighter starter than say the salt and pepper battered squid – which needs a fairly sizable mouth, or a knife, to cope with. The main dishes are served with a few flourishes – delicate pieces of bamboo shoot and carrot decorate the good plump prawns in the subtly flavoured kung po. The mixed szechuan vegetables is a bit more hearty in flavour. Over all there are no great surprises in Chow – but it has a good fast turnaround in service making it a good lunch-hour destination with no disappointments.
- High point: Pretty blooming Suzi tea in a glass pot
- Low point: All a bit hurried

This was one of the worst restaurant experiences I have had for a lone time. Why is it such hard work for a party of 8 to order food in a restaurant? The service was slow and felt as though we were an inconvenience for the staff?
After reading reviews about the service being slightly intrusive we were surprised to find ourselfs asking several times for our order to be taken, then to have to collect our own wine and pour it ourselves.
The meal was long and drawen out and left us feeling that we had to do all the hard work!
The food was nice, when it came, but not good enough to go back for!
The bill was not itemised, so we were not even able to see what we were being charged for. There was no coffee machine! Why not? No alternative was offered!
Overall,a huge dissapointment!
We will never be back!
