Renewal is as important in the hospitality world as it is in any relationship, and the people at the Waterline are hopeful the pub's recent spruce-up will strengthen its bond with customers. In both the interior and the menu, this laid-back place has applied subtle alterations to a formula that is one of the Shore's most popular. While the maritime trinkets adorning the bar's interior - the rope, anchors and shipping maps - are still all present and correct, the menu has taken on a more continental hue. Gone are some of the heartier staples, replaced by a spirit of increased eclecticism that takes in everything from sandwiches and wraps to tapas and pitta bread with dips. The nautical theme is now more noticeable in the food, with seafood dishes given greater prominence. Later kitchen hours also mean that diners will be able to sate their appetite right up until last orders are called at the bar. Sugar junkies will be glad to hear that the kitchen has addressed the problem of its dodgy desserts. A weak link in the past due to an obvious affinity to the freezer, sweets are now made fresh on the premises.
