This review is taken from the current (2011) edition.
Librizzi is formal Italian dining with polite, suited waiters, crisp, white tablecloths and linen napkins. Nice touches such as a fresh flower on every table add to the impression that details are attended to. The flavours of southern Italy feature heavily on the menu. Pinenuts stud many dishes and the sweet and sour tang found in that most typical of Sicilian dishes caponata is echoed elsewhere. If a place is to be judged on its soup then Librizzi is to be recommended: the mushroom and tarragon soup is full of bold, earthy character. A simple bruschetta with grilled aubergine is rich with herbs and fruity olive oil. Fish is a speciality with an interesting and regularly changing list of daily specials such as a plate of fat, perfectly cooked scallops flanked by mounds of comforting squid-ink risotto. Homemade puddings don’t quite reach the same the level; the tiramisù's sponge is too weakly flavoured, although a lemon sorbet is refreshingly sharp.
- High point: The fish specials
- Low point: Slightly staid atmosphere
