As Harry Ramsden's is now a giant international chain (with outlets in airports), this guide perhaps feels less inclined to bother with such an institution. Still, there is something comforting in lunches or fish teas at homely Harry's. Portions remain huge and the choice of battered fish runs from cod and haddock to plaice and halibut. Mushy peas practically glow and slices of white bread with butter are a throwback to earlier times. Not cheap for fish and chips, but occasionally worth it. [Not recently visited.]
