Eating & Drinking Guide

The 2011/12 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).

This review is taken from the current (2011) edition.

A welcome refuge from the somewhat dingy drinking dens of Rose Street, Miro’s adds spice and colour to the centre of town, as well as an impressively freestyle menu for what can be a formulaic genre of food. The chargrilled chorizo starter is rich and smoky, while borrego con miel – lamb cooked slowly with honey and smoked chilli – is tender and tasty, and goes especially well with La Cetto, a Mexican red that deserves all its awards. Despite a largely patriotic outlook in the first two courses, desserts stray north of la frontera. But that doesn't detract from a key lime pie that even Floridians would find hits the mark.

  • High point: Varied, interesting menu
  • Low point: Elbow room can be restricted

Was the only mexican place in central Edinburgh open on sunday afternoon, but was glad this was the case. Friendly staff, cater for vegetarians and specific dietary requirements. Excellent food - very tasty, definately recommend nachos and mexican stack on menu. Good location aswell. Will definately go every time I visit Edinburgh.

While the place is tiny, the staff are very friendly and do a very good job of keeping customers happy.

The salsa is fresh made and the enchiladas actually taste like mexican food. The margaritas aren't bad, depending on which member of staff makes them but I'd stick to the wine list. While not terribly authentic, their desserts are fairly tasty. The prices are reasonable and the portions are just about right.

As far as Mexican food in Edinburgh goes, I'd say this is one of the better choices and would recommend Miro's as a place to go for anyone who KNOWS mexican food.

I've just had lunch at this place. The slow cooked honey and lamb dish I had was so tasty I feel compelled to let others know. Superb. yum..yum. Might even go back for my tea tonight, if there is any left.

Great little Mexican in Rose Street. The place is very cosy, although you may go as far as to say it's cramped. The nachos are great although I'd recommend sharing a plate as they are huge! The king prawn tampico though was nothing to get excited about. The main courses are great, especially washed down with a bottle of Dos beer. The toilets are a bit of a crystal maze effort, open this door before that door and hope no-one is coming the opposite way. Overall though the prices were very reasonable and the food is definitely worth a try.
