If your aim is to eat riverside you couldn’t get any closer than the City Café without getting wet. With its own mooring it’s possible to step from a boat onto the large outdoor decking area, which must be one of the better spots for summer drinks in the entire city. Unlike many hotel restaurants the City Café is flooded with natural light lending a feeling of brightness, which is complemented by the crisp white tablecloths, the smart staff and ultimately by the attractively dishes which dazzle with colourful sauces and precision presentation. A duo of river trout is an unusual yet successful take on fish pie, served as it is in a jam jar topped with mash. The lamb shank falls off the bone as it should, while a daily special of pheasant, cooked pink with a wonderfully vibrant side of green kale is beautiful. A plum cobbler with a jug of bright yellow custard is perhaps the only dessert that doesn’t come with a bespoke ice-cream, featuring offbeat flavours of ginger-bread, white chocolate and Earl Grey tea. Even without the sun the City Café sparkles.
- High point: On the river, pretty presentations, great service
- Low point: Could get busy on SECC concert days

a pleasant summer evening, we were looking forward to eating on the terrace overlooking the river.
on arriving, we were directed to sit where we wished and advised that a waiter would attend to us right away. after about twenty minutes of witnessing various waiters skilfully averting their eyes from the little bit of attention i was craving, we decamped to finniestoun.very poor.

City CaféReport -
We have been dinning in the City Inn restaurant this weekend for the second time now.
The first time was when we were hotel customers. The second time we came only for the restaurant and just for the outstanding quality and fresh food. The view and the ambiance of the restaurant is lovely and classic. In the summertime it is great to sit outside as well.
We definitely come back and we want to recommend this restaurant to everybody! Not just hotel customers.
