The Ivory Lounge is a new bar/restaurant at the west end of George Street on the site of the former Bar 38. Plush booths and pale blue lighting help create a vibrant atmosphere, and the wide, open aisles ensure that guests never feel confined. While most people come to the Ivory Lounge to drink, the varied menu features excellent starters, mains, desserts and tapas. The tapas selection, which features dishes from around the world, is ideal for those seeking a quick bite. Warm curls of calamari, breaded butterfly prawns and skewers of ginger chicken tempura are all lightly fried. Tucked underneath a layer of cheese and ham are soft slices of aubergine, covered in a sweet tomato sauce. Flat, firm mushrooms arrive topped with a Parmesan and garlic crumb crust. To finish, bananas smothered in toffee sauce on top of a thick Belgian waffle is a sweet, pleasing dessert. Quality wines and smooth cocktails are also cheaply priced, and are brought to your table by outgoing, upbeat staff.
- High point: Easy to read menu
- Low point: Few vegetarian options
