Some establishments located in the heart of Edinburgh's studentland could be accused of cutting corners when it comes to quality, but this is certainly not the case with funky bar Human Be-In. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are on offer all week, with a separate weekend brunch menu and bargain student lunch deals Monday to Friday. Turkish-style chicken skewers marinated in tomato, basil, garlic, chilli and cumin, served with a yoghurt and chive dip, or vegetable spring rolls with a special dipping sauce are light snacks which marry perfectly with choices from the slick drinks menu. If you're a little more peckish, choose from hot dishes, sandwiches, burgers and salads, or the varied daily specials such as the fresh and extravagant ingredients of pan-fried chicken breast with haggis, mashed neeps and mushroom cream. The minimalist interior has worn well over the last six years, but, to celebrate a year under new management, there are plans to transform the décor - extending cosy, intimate booths throughout the bar to create a lounge-style atmosphere. Human Be-In has a good reputation and, with a revamp and the work of the hands-on owners, this looks set to continue.
