Eating & Drinking Guide 2008

The List's Eating & Drinking Guide 2008 is now in the shops.

This review is from the 2007 edition.

It is predominantly the suits who tend to flock en masse to the honey interior of this large, airy, central district bar. It is particularly popular with groups of office employees out for a quick lunch midweek or for a longer Friday night drink after work. While steaks and burgers may be at its core, the menu also reflects an emphasis on sociability, with its varied selection of themed tapas plates to share. The tiger prawn skewers positively heave with fat, juicy prawns tucked up in a crispy batter, and the baked camembert is a visual treat, served in its very own balsa wood box and topped with a delicately sweet cranberry sauce. Although best known as a wine bar, All Bar One is expanding into the world of real ales, going so far as to provide diners with a beer menu that recommends which of the smooth stuff to drink with their meal. The bar area also boasts the latest accessory for the girl about town - handbag hooks on the sides of tables.
