Eating & Drinking Guide

The 2011/12 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).

This review is taken from the current (2011) edition.

The latest addition to the Vittoria family comes in the shape of a stylish and atmospheric basement wine bar, Divino Enoteca, in the belly of their George IV bridge outlet. Divino is proof positive that the Vittoria formula is a winning one, and the owners are ready to push that formula further. Both restaurants are now firmly established and perennially popular. Both share the same menu and a capacity for large groups, which lends a lively, carefree atmosphere. The menu is of Goliath proportions, with more choices than can be realistically read in the time staff are ready to take your order. Meatballs in tangy sauce or firm-fleshed king prawns with lemon and white wine are excellent ways to begin your meal; both deliver on taste and value. There’s an impressive range of Scottish beefsteaks and chicken and fish options, while half pizza, half pasta is a popular choice as a main for those who want the best of both worlds. The inclusion of ham and chips may be a step too far in giving diners variety, but unlike some restaurants that indulge in very long menus, you can expect a good meal here pretty much every time.

  • High point: Vast choice with high quality
  • Low point: The menu takes forever to read

Eight of us had dinner at this fabulous Italian restaurant. The staff was extremely attentive and had excellent suggestions about the menu. Very affordable with great portions! I found a gem!

Love love love this place!

The food was wonderful and the staff were attentive, but not overly pushy for us to leave. A lovely afternoon, despite the wind howling outside! Great deal well worth it.

Just had the best eggs benedict with spinach for Saturday brunch while hubby raved about his steak and eggs. Why the best? Everything was just as it should be, and priced as it should be. Super coffee also. I don't normally go out for Italian dinners, but this will become regular spot for brunch.

Christmas menu was very poor and quite overpriced at £28 per head. Food was very average indeed. Normally the lunchtime menu represents good value for money. However on this occasion it appears this low cost italian eatery has decided it should be charging folks similar prices to more established and frankly better italian restaurants in the Edinburgh area.

Tasty Pizza's, really tasty pastas and OMG try the meatballs!
Worth every penny!
Drinks are expensive tho.

Lunch menu seems very good VFM. In reality, their 7" pizza is like the thinnest flat bread you can imagine (2-3mm max), topped with a smear of tomato sauce, 2 tiny pieces of mozarella, a halved uncooked cherry tomato and a sliver of parma ham.

Perhaps it's the credit crunch but compared to the main review, Vittoria is a million miles away from good Italian cooking!

Their drink is also very expensive (£5 for a pint of gassy italian lager).

My favourite Italian in Edinburgh but a great shame that the Polish chefs cannot manage Zabaglioni!
