This review is taken from the current (2011) edition.
There’s no mistaking Maison Bleue in Victoria Street – the frontage is painted a vivid and cheerful blue. Inside, there’s a distinctly North African vibe with the bar area furnished in umber shades and a menu that reflects the colonial influence on modern French eating habits. You'll notice starters like spicy merguez sausages and couscous alongside classic mussels in perfectly balanced white wine, cream and broadleaf parsley liquor. Mains also tend towards the robust. Cassoulet is a hearty stew of white beans and meats, with French sausages full of flavour, the beans soft but not mushy. Tender lamb shank, slow-cooked with root vegetables in a tagine, works well with a side order of couscous, ratatouille peppers and harissa. Desserts range from sticky toffee pudding to a soft, white chocolate mousse, or an Iain Mellis cheese board, served Scottish-style with oatcakes. Courteous staff are happy to help diners choose from 13 wines by the glass. A predominantly Old World wine list complements the food.
- High point: Perfectly cooked root vegetables in the tagine
- Low point: Puds not as imaginative as the rest of the menu

First and foremost the staff were amazing. Professional, friendly, knowledgable.
I should've know, mid fesitval, the standard would be different, and it was, sadly. Irritating that their online info wasn't up to date with those changes either.
So we weren't able to have the bouche... great value normally. and the 'set' pre theatre menu was uninspired - salmon, pasta, chicken, steak (with suppliment) the starters equally uninspired.
flavours were there, but don't expect a wow factor, cream is prevalent in place of a good stock or seasoning.
cheese board, considering its from mellis was poor. for 5.50 i could've bought a healthy chunck of anything!
atmosphere lovely, rest average. (was the festival though - but still)

Maison BleueReport -
Dined at Maison Bleue on Sunday night (24th Aug) for the first time, was very busy with it being the festival and a bank holiday weekend. Very atmospheric dining area, with a real buzz about it, service was speedy and friendly. Food was very good, in particular my lamb shank was extremely tender with the meat falling off the bone. Chocolate cake desert was decent without being great, though cheese board raised the bar again. Would go back.
