Stazione is a Mediterranean-style restaurant housed in what was once a Victorian railway station near Gartnavel Hospital. An unlikely location, perhaps, but one that has been pulling in a steady stream of diners for over ten years. A large neutral dining space with dark wood tables, candles aglow, and Snow Patrol on the stereo make for a comfortable, if somewhat ordinary, experience. A starter of bruschetta with roasted cherry tomatoes and Italian sausage is suitably flavoursome, although the bread lacks the crisp bite of the traditional sourdough bruschetta base. A hearty portion of albeit slightly dry Tuscan-style lasagne comes with a crisp green salad, while a traditional lamb stew is filling but rather unmemorable, although the accompanying sweet potato mash is smooth and vibrant. The Stazione special crème brûlée is a velvety smooth dessert choice, with just the right brittle crunch. The menu features daily specials, the atmosphere is pleasant, and the staff are competent and very neatly dressed.
- High point: Good desserts
- Low point: Less memorable mains
