Yumla is smack bang in the heart of the city – just off Argyle and Ingram Streets – yet it is somewhat hidden on a dark Merchant City street. This rather concealed location may well explain the well-lit, flashy exterior that leads into a very large dining area, which is popular with large parties. The space has typical Chinese-inspired décor with a a few nice twists: booths, funky Buddhas and modern lighting making the place different from its contemporaries. The menu covers all the usual dishes, such as aromatic crispy duck or chicken chow mein, however it appears to favour a slightly higher quality of ingredient, such as scallops and asparagus. There are a few non-typical dishes on the menu, such as steamed New Zealand mussels with black bean or garlic sauce, and ‘beef Mount Fuji’, which is cooked with diced vegetables, chilli and oyster sauce.
- High point: Can host large parties
- Low point: Hidden away down a dark street
Reviews of Yumla (80 Miller Street, Glasgow)

I had friends from London up and we fancied a quick Chinese meal on a Friday night, on the strength of The List review I called Yumla and booked a table.
I can only imagine the place has utterly gone to seed after the review was done, the décor can only ne described as tatty at best and an overwhelming smell of dampness permeated the whole restaurant. The large fish tank at the reception area had a lump of glass missing from its base adding to the general shabby appearance.
There were only 3 tables taken in this very large restaurant so it was sadly lacking atmosphere.
On the Yumla web page they state they do a buffet night on a Friday, but this isn’t on offer anymore.
The food we ordered was very good and the service was excellent, we opted for a set menu which was good value BUT the restaurant is in need of rejuvenating and fast before it goes seriously downhill.
