Thai Fountain is a well-established fixture on Glasgow’s business-lunch circuit. An easy stumble from dozens of professional firms in the Park district, it’s been drawing crowds of lawyers, architects and admen with elegantly served versions of classic Thai dishes for 15 years. While ingredients are top-notch and presentation impeccable, flavours can seem timid to anyone who’s eaten in Thailand – or indeed a Thai restaurant in London. Perhaps they’re assiduously adjusting for local palates; continued popularity seems to suggest they’ve got it right. However, the a la carte is unaccountably expensive, with most starters over £7 and most mains over £12 (with rice or noodles charged in addition). For those prices you could lunch somewhere stellar, and in the era of the restricted expense account, Thai Fountain may be a little too much for many. RESEARCH REVIEW
- High point: Elegant service
- Low point: Unjustifiably high prices
