Pink is the word at Shimla Pinks on Pollokshaws Road. The striking cerise and black décor, along with the subdued lighting and white opaque glass behind the bar, create a 1980s wine bar feel. The atmosphere is subdued, intimate and rarely too busy, though the bar area has tables that can be used when the main dining room fills up. Low-key bhangra beats play in the background as quiet, efficient staff move between the tables. The extensive menu is reasonably priced and offers all the old favourites, whether kormas or jalfrezis, while set-price options and the buffet lunch cater to those on even tighter budgets. The starters are mainly deep-fried samosas and pakoras, while the puris offer various fillings: a light lentil pancake might come stuffed with spicy mushrooms and tomatoes. The creamy chicken korma is packed with coconut with a slight chilli kick, while lamb rogan josh offers tender chunks of lamb in a rich, freshly cooked tomato and pepper sauce finished with fresh coriander. Desserts range from the traditional kulfi ice-cream with honey mango to refreshing lemon or orange sorbets.
- High point: Weekday dinner and lunch deals
- Low point: Possibly too pink
