Eating & Drinking Guide

The 2011/12 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).

What the Millennium Platter lacks in subtlety (walls painted luminous yellow and bright lighting), it makes up for in value for money. With a variety of ridiculously cheap meal offers such as a buffet lunch for £4.95 and a £2.95 business lunch (both available on Mondays to Saturdays between noon and 2pm), it's an ideal restaurant for those after a quick, no-frills meal. The quality of the food can be somewhat patchy, such as a rather rubbery panir pakora or an excessively oily garlic naan. The mewa massala – made with chicken, cream, tomatoes, almonds, cashews and raisins – is a tasty main course. The set-price buffet meals, including beverages, offer customers the opportunity to eat as much as they like. It is understandably something of a student magnet. The family feast for four does not exactly break the bank either and includes starters such as pakora and spiced mushroom, two tikkas, two curries, two portions of fried rice and two naan.

  • High point: Ridiculously cheap
  • Low point: Décor in need of smartening up

Reviews of Millennium Platter (120 Dumbarton Road, Glasgow)

1. girlscout, Glasgow – 7 July 2008, 9:17amMillennium PlatterReport

Myself and some friends came here on Saturday for the famous 'all you can eat and drink for 2 hours' option. Costing £17.95 per person it was certainly worth a shot. There was a decent variety of starters available as well as the drink on offer. However a few of our party were promptly sick afterwards (and had only had 2 pints, so it wasn't alcohol - induced), and the ladies' loo was an absolute state... truly revolting, and when the toilet was flushed it was in danger of overflowing. Thought it was a bit cheeky to be brought the bill after only an hour of being there too.

Bearing in mind ' you get what you pay for ' I still felt that I can't recommend the place... unless you're desperate or particularly brave. Doing a search for the Millennium Platter also throws up a pretty worrying Environmental Health report from 12 months ago.

Conclusion... avoid.
