The Granary has been bestriding the two main Shawlands arteries of Pollokshaws Road and Kilmarnock Road for 25 years. At lunchtime the main part of the pub is closed and you have to slip in via a side door. Failing to make a grand entrance, too, are the chicken and chorizo skewers – too much on the tough side. Another starter, the baby baked camembert, is a substantial melting gem, however, that comes with nicely fresh ciabatta and a real ale chutney that has you asking for the recipe. It’s hearty portions all round for the mains in the seasonal menu, enough to satisfy even the most ravenous: there’s a whole page of Scottish favourites, as well as pies, burgers, toad in the hole, steaks, risotto, salads and a choice of platters. The fish and chips is decent enough while the goat's cheese and onion tart is larger than you’d expect, but a winner nevertheless, arriving on a slightly overwhelming salad with probably enough leaves to make up your ‘five-a-day’. A breakfast menu is available till noon and sandwiches (served with chunky chips and a salad garnish) till 5pm.
- High point: Good value if you’re hungry
- Low point: Lacks intimacy

Report -
This pub advertises food being served during the week up to 9pm. Twice recently we have been there looking for food before 7.30pm to be told they had stopped serving food. Poor service. You are there to serve the customers not the staff!
