From the floor-to -ceiling windows of Bar 10 you can actually catch a glimpse of nearby Buchanan Street – Glasgow’s shopping Mecca. Or straight across the way you will find the Lighthouse, Glasgow’s desing Mecca. Inside the bar, slick city ambience is everywhere; white tiled walls, shiny chrome counter tops, oversized retro light fittings in eye-popping colours and a background soundtrack of urban beats. The frantic hustle of town is certainly left at the door as friendly staff seem genuinely chilled and pleased to help. Shoppers taking a break, businessmen deep in conversation, girls chatting over cocktails and boys enjoying a good pint all mix well together. The menu has a hearty feel with familiar appropriations like burgers, pasta and baked potatoes all offered as well as some daily changing specials. A bowl of home-made mushroom and tarragon soup comes with slabs of fresh bread and can be part of a combo deal with a ciabatta sandwich. The Bar 10 burrito is magnificent in its heft, filled with a robust beef or vegetable chilli and served with rice. Bruschetta has various toppings from the classic tomato and basil to a punchier chorizo and bacon. Cakes are in place of desserts with the moist carrot cake particularly recommended. Excellent beers and a good-value wine list accompany the food.
- High point: Portions sizes are big
- Low point: Décor is a bit tired
