This review is taken from the current (2011) edition.
The Stand has been at the forefront of Edinburgh’s comedy scene for over 15 years, showcasing up-and-coming talent as well as staging well known acts from the UK and worldwide comedy circuit. It comes into its own during the Fringe, expanding upwards and outwards to become a four-venue comedy powerhouse, but this atmospheric basement is buzzing throughout the year thanks to its cheery staff, affordable prices and genuine commitment to independent comedy. In the low-lit room tables are packed closely together – with, unusually, room for standing at the back – creating a cosy space that allows you to get up close and personal with the acts. Shy folks beware: don’t sit at the front if you’re not keen to get involved. A popular range of bar food is served before the regular shows Thursday to Sunday: staples like beef or veggie chilli, burgers, nachos and haggis as well as a weekly special like meatballs with pasta. It’s not fancy, but it’s all made fresh to order and provides the sustenance necessary to laugh like a hyena for the rest of the night.
- High point: Hearty food, well priced beer and eclectic comedy line-ups
- Low point: If you don’t get there shortly after opening time, you probably won’t get a table

We arrived at the stand comedy edinburgh, first in the queue looking forward to a great night out. Had prebooked tickets for my brother in laws 30th birthday who had travelled from down south. Gave my name upon arrival they said i wasnt on the booking list. I had called the booking line days previous left my name, number, how many tickets and date of the show. I have been going to this club for 8yrs so know the process. They went on to say do you have a reference number(you do not recieve a ref no booking via the phone!). The staff were unhelpful and extremely rude to us. Although i have had great nights there I will not be returning. I will be taking my custom to the jongeleurs club from now on.
